Next Generation Packaging
MA Design Student Amundeep Hothi was the first person in the South West to be appointed on a new shorter KTP.
The aim of the placement with Spinnaker International Ltd, is to re-design their next generation security systems.
Using the computer-aided engineering, along with a wealth of global market insights, he was able to access
the merits of the existing product and apply fresh ideas with no preconceptions.
Going beyond the original brief Amundeep has reduced the cost of Spinnaker's distribution packaging to 10 per cent of the current solution, increasing
durability to several delivery cycles from a single packaging solution. Reducing the amount of material used, encouraging re-use and recycling has improved
the environmental impact tenfold and through this exercise he has implanted green thinking and environmental consideration within the company. Development and
realisation of the ideas created on the sustainability module embedded in MA Design created the live KTP project, in a viable commercial process and enhanced
the product range. These markets currently have a value of 30 million, of which Spinnaker hope to take a significant share over the next five years.
